In this week’s Foodie Nation vlog, Rhett Mc Carthy takes his mission to promote Caribbean cuisine and culture beyond the islands, all the way to Queens, New York City! 🇹🇹🇺🇸
Joined by Sandra Ward, an international model, coach, fashion show producer, and mentor born and raised in Panama, Rhett gives her a Trinidad and Tobago culinary experience, right in the heart of NYC.
Their stop: Trini Delite Roti Shop, a popular Caribbean family-owned restaurant located at 110-02 Liberty Ave, South Richmond Hill, NY 11419, known for serving up authentic Trinidadian and Caribbean dishes.
Together, they dive into a mouthwatering spread featuring:
🥘 Duck Roti (Dhalpuri)
🥙 Doubles
🍬 Gulab Jamun
🍞 Fried Bake & Saltfish
🥔 Aloo Pie with Shrimp
🥤 Peanut Punch, Sorrel & Seamoss Punch
As they savor each bite, the two share stories about the deep cultural and historical connection between Trinidad and Tobago, the wider Caribbean, and Panama, tracing back to the construction of the Panama Canal, when many Caribbean people migrated for work.
To top it all off, the restaurant is serenaded by Peter aka “The Parang Boss”, a popular Trinidadian parang artist now based in New York City, bringing that unmistakable Caribbean Christmas spirit to the scene! 🎶

NYC is blessed with an abundance of cultures which lessens homesick hunger attacks. On the other hand you can't find in the capital of Canada a single roti shop.
