How To Make Tuna Wontons
Tuna Wontons? Dev takes Natalie back to his school days with this simple yet tasty recipe.
Note: this is the base recipe that yields 16-18 wontons, you can simply duplicate it to double
the yield.
INGREDIENTS
For the wontons:
1 tin tuna in oil, unflavoured and drained
1 chopped garlic clove
1 tbsp chopped chive
2 tsp sesame oil
2 tsp soy sauce
Dash of white pepper
Wonton skins and cup of water for folding
Vegetable Oil for deep frying
For the Ginger Scallion oil:
1 tbsp chopped ginger
1 tbsp chopped garlic
1 tbsp chopped chive
Pinch of salt
METHOD
Prep the ingredients for the ginger scallion oil first. Place all in a metal bowl or deep plate,
one that can handle heat. NO PLASTIC. Set aside.
Mix all ingredients for the tuna wontons together.
Place ½ tsp of tuna mixture on to the wonton skin, fold as appropriate (see video)
Place wok or similar deep pot on stove, fill with enough oil to deep fry. Set on high heat.
When the oil is slightly before ready to fry, use a metal ladle, and take out one portion of
hot oil. Gently pour this hot oil on the ginger scallion mixture. It should be enough to cover
the mixture. Sprinkle of salt, mix together well. You want to be able to just scald the
mixture. Set aside.
Let the oil get to frying heat, then place all wontons in oil. Fry for about 5 mins, or until the
appropriate colour is achieved (slightly golden brown).
Lift out and place on paper to drain.
Serve with the ginger scallion oil.
