This Trini Spiced Orange Chocolate Trifle brings together rich semisweet chocolate, bright citrus, and smooth orange custard with soft sponge cake soaked in orange liquor. The perfect balance of chocolate and “Trini spice” makes it a standout dessert for any christmas lime.
Ingredients:
– 2 store-bought sponge cakes (cubed)
– 3 cups semisweet chocolate
– 4 cups cream
– 2 cups mandarin
– ½ tsp orange extract
– 4 egg yolks
– ½ cup powdered sugar
– 1 cup orange liquor*
Method:
Melt chocolate with 2 cups cream over a double boiler and set aside. Make the orange custard with the remaining cream, extract, yolks, and powdered sugar over low heat. In a trifle bowl, layer liquor-drizzled cake, custard, and mandarin. Repeat the layers and finish with the chocolate mixture on top. Garnish with orange slices and mint.
